(MESA, AZ – FEBRUARY 9, 2021) 

Oak View Group Facilities, managers and operators of Legacy Sports Park, and Legacy Sports USA, owners of the new 320-acre multi-venue property under construction in Mesa, today announced Rodney Reese, a 20-year live event and venue management specialist at the youth, amateur, professional, and special events level, as the facility’s General Manager.

Reese will lead Oak View Group’s local team in Mesa and will work closely with Legacy Sports USA in overseeing the construction of the property, scheduling the events, hiring a staff, and creating proper operating procedures for the execution of live events on the property. Once opened, Reese will lead the day-to-day management and operation of Legacy Sports Park. Oak View Group was additionally hired by Legacy Sports USA to secure a naming rights partner and founding partners for the property, attract top-quality events to the indoor arena, outdoor amphitheater, and festival grounds.

Reese is joining Oak View Group after serving as Sports Business Development Manager for ESPN World Wide of Sports in Orlando, FL, where he delivered $2M in direct and indirect revenue to WDW by forging and cultivating relationships with representatives from Major League Soccer, ESPN, NBA, CONCACAF soccer and international soccer brands programming the MLS Allstar Game ancillary events, the inaugural Jr. NBA World Championships and several international youth soccer events and professional team training camps. He also served as Manager of Events, Manager of Facility Operations, Sports Event Sales Manager, and Fieldhouse Operations Manager during his 16-year career at the ESPN property in Orlando.

He was also General Manager at the UCF Arena in Orlando, FL, from 2002 to 2004, and Assistant General Manager at the Ted Constant Convocation Center on the campus of Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA, from 1999 to 2002. 

He graduated from Pace University in New York City with a Bachelor of Administration degree. He also was a member of the Washington General’s basketball team, known for being a regular opponent of the World Famous Harlem Globetrotters.

Legacy Sports Park is being developed in one single phase constructing outdoor and indoor team athletic facilities geared to high-energy entertainment, sports venues. With a scheduled January 2022 opening, Legacy Sports Park will feature state-of-the-art performance, training and competitive spaces for soccer, baseball, softball, basketball, gymnastics, track and field, pickleball, futsal, dance, and cheerleading.

Legacy Sports Park will also include a multi-purpose arena and outdoor amphitheater which Oak View Group will schedule live events, family shows, exhibitions, and conventions. The property also features a Youth Gym, Day Care Center, Sports Bar and Restaurant, Concession Stands, Equipment and Apparel Stores, and Retail.

The goal is to provide athletic competition, entertainment, and the means to facilitate physical and mental wellness.With expansive first-class fields and facilities, Legacy Sports Park anticipates drawing participants from all over the United States and throughout the world. The national and international competition and accompanying visitors will provide a forum for the exchange of cultural and educational philosophies through athletic competition regardless of nationality, religion, or socioeconomic background.

Legacy Sports Park will create over 1,500 jobs and generate hundreds of millions of dollars in direct economic impact back to the surrounding community. The park is expected to attract over three million visitors annually.
